Reason #1... to have kids:

They try to play sports like grown-ups and look adorable doing it. I bet the little blue guy has fantastic images of himself looking like Ryu from Street Fighter - jumping 12 feet in the air, doing reverse strong kicks. And he's probably holding back so he doesn't do any real damage to red.
